A 20-YEAR-OLD drug dealer who jumped out of a first-floor window with more than five kilogrammes of crack cocaine to escape police has been locked up for 33 months.

Kofie John-Welch, of Cowley Road, Oxford, was sent to a young offenders’ institution at Oxford Crown Court on Friday.

He admitted possessing crack cocaine, a class A drug, with intent to supply and to possessing cannabis, a class B drug.

The court heard police raided a house in Medhurst Way, Littlemore, on Wednesday, August 5, and saw John-Welch jumping out of a first-floor window in an attempt to get away.

Officers handcuffed him and when they searched him discovered one wrap of cannabis.

He was searched again in custody where police found a set of digital scales, rolls of plastic film, wraps of crack cocaine that amounted to 5.88kg, three mobile phones and £3,736.25 in cash. He was charged the next day with possession of the two drugs.

John-Welch was also charged with being concerned in the supply of a class A drug and criminal damage to property valued under £5,000, but the court ruled both of those charges will lie on file.

He was sentenced to two months in a young offenders’ institution for possession of cannabis and 33 months for possession with intent to supply crack cocaine, to run concurrently.

John-Welch was also ordered to pay £900 court costs and a £120 victims’ surcharge and to surrender the drugs for destruction.

Thames Valley Police warned that drugs had an impact further than the life and wellbeing of those dealing and taking them and held John-Welch up as an example.

The investigating officer, DC Oli Jacques, of Banbury CID, said: “This conviction and sentencing is an example of the tireless work Thames Valley Police officers do in order to crack down on drugs offences. The supply and use of illegal drugs can have a devastating impact on communities and will not be tolerated.”
