CRAFTY visitors to the cancer support and therapy centre in Bicester got stuck into patchwork this week.

The Hummingbird Centre in Launton hosted its weekly crafts session for people to try their hand at making bags.

Phyllis Laidler, 83, from Banbury Road, is a regular visitor to the centre after losing members of her family to cancer.

She said: "I have been sitting in the craft room making a bag and putting on patchwork flowers in all different materials.

"Activities like this help you take your mind off things and just forget. We sit here having a chat and having fun.

"This place is the best thing I have ever done and so worth it. Somebody told me about this when I lost family to cancer and I just love it.

"I don't often do things out on my own."

The centre is open Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and runs weekly craft sessions on Tuesdays.

The charity is run on donations from local businesses and the community. It supports those who have been affected by cancer whether themselves or a family member.
