STORM Imogen is inflicting her wrath on the county, which is bracing itself for wind speeds of up to 70mph.

Early risers endured the first bout of heavy rain, which pounded the pavements from the early hours of this morning. 

Oxfordshire is among several Southern counties set to bear the brunt of the storm, with a yellow weather warning for wind issued by the Met Office. 

The forecaster predicts that downpours in Oxford could last until 6pm, including a heavy hail shower at 12pm. 

The yellow warning predicts gusts of up to 70mph, though Oxford's top speed is set to fall shy of 30mph. 

Seven flood warnings are in place across the county, in areas around the River Cherwell, River Thames, River Ock, Ginge Brook, River Evenlode, Sor Brook and Bloxham Brook. 

Some watercourses have already risen above the level which could cause flooding.

The  Seacourt Stream in Botley, near Seacourt Park, rose overnight to 1.92 metres - flooding is possible above 1.81 metres.

River Windrush, in Standlake near Witney, is well over its 1.25 metre safety level, threatening to break its banks at 1.46 metres.

Train operators warned of travel disruption yesterday, as the Met Office advised drivers to take care on the roads.
