The M40 southbound has now reopened following a crash involving two lorries at Watlington this morning.

The southbound carriageway was closed between junctions six and five following the collision shortly after 5am.

A man was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with head and leg injuries but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Drivers have been diverted away from the area and traffic has been queuing on the southbound carriageway about seven miles back to junction 8A.

One lane of the northbound carriageway was also affected as emergency services attended the incident but all lanes northbound have now reopened.

Oxford Bus Company has tweeted that it is currently unable to serve Lewknor because of the delays.

Traffic is also heavy on the A34.

Police attending the crash have tweeted a picture of the incident.

 

 

 

Thames Valley Police said the southbound carriageway was expected to be closed until about 8am.

Police spokeswoman Hannah Jones said two vehicles have been involved in a collision on the M40 northbound close to junction nine.

She said one vehicle has left the carriageway but it remains open.

It is not yet known if anyone has been hurt.
