A man has been jailed for four years for stealing cash and electrical items from a 72-year-old woman.

Simon Snuggs, of Tighe Close, broke into a property in East Challow, in Wantage on November 29 last year.

He was arrested and bailed, but enquiries later linked him to an incident at a Sainsbury's store in Wantage where he was seen cashing in various coins at a Coinstar machine.

Forensic work also linked Snuggs to the burgled house and he was charged and remanded in custody.

The 46-year-old admitted to one count of burglary at Oxford Crown Court on Friday and was sentenced the same day.

Snuggs identified a further five offences he had been responsible for including a burglary in Challow, Wantage on September 16 last year, an attempted burglary in Adkin Way, Wantage on November 28, theft of a parcel in Adkin Way on the same date, burglary in Naldertown on November 25 and attempted burglary at East Hanney on October 21.

Investigating officer, PC Mark Allmond from Local CID at Abingdon police station said: “I am extremely happy with this sentence. This has been a very positive outcome for all of the victims involved with some of these victims being elderly.

“Having liaised with the victims I am well aware that these crimes have had a massive impact on them both physically and mentally.

"Being able to give the victims closure and a positive outcome is always at the forefront of any Police investigation.

“Snuggs has shown some genuine remorse over his crimes and it is to his credit that he admitted five other offences.

"Four years’ imprisonment is a very positive outcome and will allow the victims to move on and ultimately make the streets of Wantage town safer.”
