AFTER a quiet few months' rest following a fundraising triumph last year, the Oxfordshire Stars have returned with a dynamic lineup of events for 2016.

The group was formed in 2014 by Nicky Clargo, the clerk of Blackbird Leys Parish Council, with the sole aim of raising money for national charity Marie Curie.

Last year the Stars raised £9,750 - just shy of its £10,000 target - and is revving up to attempt to do the same again.

Miss Clargo, of Witney, said: "Things are just starting to kick off again now. So far we have done one quiz night each month; I was pooped after Christmas.

"We have lots of things lined up again for the summer. The quiz night has been well received and it has been packed on all three occasions, so hopefully we will go from strength to strength. £10,000 is going to be a bit of a mission but we hope to raise it again."

Quizzes are held on the last Wednesday of every month at The Oxfordshire Yeoman Pub in Freeland, with entry costing £3 per person and a raffle on the night.

From May 12 to 15 a group of up to 24 people can take part in a sponsored Shropshire trek and on May 21 fashionistas are invited to a catwalk show at Eynsham Village Hall with refreshments and live entertainment. Morris dancing, a scarecrow festival, barbecues and a 70s and 80s night are also planned for later in the summer.

Miss Clargo said: "More and more people are coming and enjoying the events and support is growing in momentum all the time."
