A SECOND consignment of Oxford United wristbands has been delivered to the Leys Pools and Leisure Centre as the limited-edition accessories fly off the shelves.

Yellows fans across the city have scrambled to get their hands on the must-have fashion items ahead of their team's trip to Wembley for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final next weekend.

The leisure centre in Pegasus Road, Blackbird Leys, has seen more than its fair share of customers and received a second batch of 100 after the first 100 were sold.

General manager Mike Harrison said: "There are loads of Oxford United fans in the area. Some of the teams actually train here, using the centre and the pool as well as it's a really good pool for a variety of fitness and rehab.

"It's not like it's the FA cup, but there is a lot of excitement and people are talking about it. We have had a few come down and take photos with the bands and posters."

Wristbands, produced by the Oxford Mail, are being sold at six locations around Oxford including the Kassam Stadium's store, and one newsagent in Witney.

Each band costs £1, 80p of which will go to the club's community trust arm to improve health and wellbeing, education, training and employment, and social inclusion across Oxfordshire. The trust is also saving £40,000 to buy a minibus to take its projects to rural parts of the county.

There are 3,000 bands up for grabs in total. All of the staff at the Leys leisure centre are wearing bands and some - including team leader Hannah Cox, a goalkeeper for Oxford United WFC, and Fusion Lifestyle divisional business manager Wayne Hawkins - have a special reason to be excited.

Mr Harrison added: "My boss, Wayne Hawkins, who looks after the contracts with the council, is a massive Oxford United fan.

"He goes to all of the home and away games and is taking the Fusion team to Wembley. There are lots of fans here."
