A MAN who attacked three men and sexually assaulted two women during a drunken rampage was handed an extended jail sentence for being a danger to the public.

Kevin Webb's crime spree began when he approached two women walking home along Bullingdon Road in the early hours of the morning of December 5 last year.

The court heard how the 38-year-old made "grossly obscene and offensive" comments towards them, before sexually assaulting one of them.

After following them home and having the door shut in his face, Webb then tried to gatecrash a party in nearby Hurst Street, where he stole a bottle of wine and assaulted a guest when he was not allowed in.

Webb, of Cowley Road, then barged into a second party in Iffley Road, where he sexually assaulted another woman, and attacked two of her friends when they tried to throw him out.

Judge Patrick Eccles QC told Oxford Crown Court on Friday[apr1] how Webb had behaved in an "irrational, aggressive and disgusting" way that morning.

He added: "First you gratuitously assaulted a young woman in the street – she was a perfect stranger to you.

"Next you tried to gatecrash a party and randomly picked on a guest.

"Then you made your way to another party, you barged in, you touched up a number of women then sexually assaulted one particular young woman.

"Finally you you assaulted the two young men who came to protect her."

Webb admitted two sexual assaults, stealing a bottle of wine from Ali Villa then assaulting him and assaulting Charles Colenutt and Oscar North.

Kevin Batch, defending, said his client had an alcohol problem and was not a danger to the public, and with the right support could get a job and re-enter society.

He added: "He takes responsibility for the new offending, accepts his behaviour was unacceptable and he regrets this.

"With the right support, this is a man who could lead a constructive and rewarding life, which ultimately protects the public."

But while Judge Eccles accepted Webb had shown remorse and shame for his actions, he said Webb had a poor criminal record for violence and robbery..

Jailing him for a total of 40 months, Judge Eccles said Webb was a danger to the public.

He added: "Even though you were under the influence of drink you were deliberately seeking out young women for some disturbed sexual purpose of your own.

"Your language was grossly obscene and offensive. You are, in my judgement, capable of being a sexual predator."

The judge imposed an extended sentence for the second sexual assault at the party in Iffley Road, because Webb used violence to inflict it.

It means Webb will not be able to apply for parole until he has served at least 25 months of his jail term.

Judge Eccles said: "There will be an extended sentence, bearing in mind your history, and taking into account the degree of violence you used to inflict that assault and bearing in mind you committed it in the privacy of someone's home."
