BEMUSED passers-by have been treated to a week of filmmaking mayhem in Radcliffe Square, with more than a handful catching a glimpse of Hollywood star Tom Cruise.

Droves of production workers with trailers and equipment in tow set up in central Oxford on Sunday night to film an anticipated reboot of The Mummy.

The American actor smiled, waved and posed for photos with fans as he joined co-stars Annabelle Wallis and Sofia Boutella in the city this week.

Now local businesses believe that work in Radcliffe Square may be winding down.

Natasha Cirou, who works at the Vaults and Garden Cafe, said: "We bumped into them all the time. The first day I was trying to get out and they stopped me and said I had to wait. This car pulled up and Tom Cruise came out. I saw him again last night.

"They have added lots of strange orange lights throughout the square. They had this massive crane and filters on all the lamp posts."

She added that she had seen Mr Cruise being filmed walking up Catte Street, a shot which apparently took between 20 and 30 takes to perfect.

Tage Loranka, manager of the Oxfam charity shop in Broad Street, said: "I saw big lorries around on Tuesday but it seems like quite a normal day today. They have probably finished."
