THE driver and passenger of a car which was abandoned after it crashed into a furniture shop in Cowley Road are yet to have been tracked down by police.

Owners of The Furniture Store are counting the cost two days on since emergency services were called to the junction with Bullingdon Road and Chapel Street to reports a vehicle had smashed into their shop.

The silver Peugeot 207 hit a lamppost on the pavement outside Tesco Metro shorting before crashing into the store.

Yesterday the structure of the building in which a brick pillar and glass front were destroyed was made secure and boarded up for the near future.

Owner Omar Nawaz, who helps to run the family-owned store said it was a massive blow for the business, and that he had not been updated on whether the police had made any arrests.

The 35-year-old added: "The repairs will cost tens of thousands of pounds and we will be shut for a least a month.

"We haven't been informed if anyone has been arrested, but it has now been boarded up and hopefully made secure by the builders."

Eyewitnesses told the Oxford Mail two people in the car, a man and a woman got out, retrieved some belongings and then fled the scene.

Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Lucy Billen said was no update on the investigation.
