TALKS about building a fourth stand at the Kassam Stadium should be brought forward again now that Oxford United have won promotion to League One, Firoz Kassam says.

The businessman and former owner of the club said he hoped discussions would be given a fresh boost after the U's beat Wycombe Wanderers 3-0 on Saturday, securing their rise from League Two.

He said: "It's very exciting news and once the chairman [Darryl Eales] has had a chance to settle down after all the excitement and celebration I am sure there will be discussions about it.

"The plan is still to finish the stadium and although things have been moving at a slow pace the result on Saturday will hopefully move it forward."

The comments come after Mr Kassam revealed talks were back on about the multi-million pound proposals in March, adding that he "would like a stadium with my name on it that is finished and not just half-built".

It is understood the plans are also likely to involve housing, new car parking and possibly conference facilities.

Mr Kassam said since a £12m Hampton by Hilton hotel – managed by his company – had been finished at Grenoble Road, his attentions would be focused on the fourth stand scheme and the derelict Priory pub.

Oxford United chairman Darryl Eales has previously said his "preference would be to remain at the Kassam" but that any plans for extra stands would need to be backed up by strong fan attendance figures.
