THIS was the breathtaking view from a police helicopter as it whirred over the Westgate Shopping Centre in Oxford.

Its RAF Benson-based crew snapped the picture earlier this morning after helping officers on the ground to locate a missing person.

Looking east, the bird's eye snap shows the Westgate construction site where six cranes are now in use.

Developers behind the £440m scheme said two weeks ago that more than half of the centres planned new shop units are now pre-let ahead of its October 2017 opening.

Meanwhile, Queen Street is set to be closed to through-traffic for almost five months as part of the next phase of works.

The road will be closed to buses and taxis from Monday, June 6 to the end of October, meaning buses run by Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach will not be able to stop there.
