A CHANCE to live like Mr Bean could be yours as comedian and actor Rowan Atkinson’s Waterperry home goes back on the market.

The Old Rectory’s £2.65m price tag is a quarter of a million pounds less than when the Blackadder star first put it up for sale at £2.9m a year ago.

Dating back to 1777, the Grade II-listed country house is set in 6.25 acres including a stretch along the banks of the River Thame.

Agent Carter Jonas says Mr Atkinson, who bought The Old Rectory in 1982, is selling it “to consolidate his property portfolio”.

Mr Atkinson, whose more recent roles include the lead in spy comedy film Johnny English and ITV’s Maigret, also owns Handsmooth House in Ipsden near Wallingford and a home in North London.

He recently divorced his wife of 24 years, Sunetra Sastry.

The five-bedroom Old Rectory includes a drawing room, sitting room, kitchen, breakfast/day room, half cellar and family room with bedroom/office above.

Other highlights include an indoor swimming pool, four-bay garage, greenhouse, tennis courts and gardens.

The 61-year-old comedian has spent years renovating the property, including adding an extension to link the Georgian house to a new swimming pool complex.

A stone cottage that was next to the house has been incorporated into the main property to create extra living space.

The main house includes two bedroom suites, three more bedrooms plus a family bathroom, while the cottage area has a bedroom and home-office.

The swimming pool complex includes French doors to the garden, a gym and steam room. Mark Charter, of Oxford-based agent Carter Jonas, has acted as a property consultant for the actor “on a number of occasions”.

He said there has been “quite a lot of interest” in the Old Rectory, with several first and second viewings taking place last week.

He added: “It’s come back on the market with a price reduction of £250,000 with a view to achieving a sale this summer.”
