THE sun is set to shine over the county once again today but sunbathing spirits may be hampered by waning temperatures.

As most families in Oxfordshire mark the first full day of the school summer holidays, trips to the beach or park will not feel as tropical as they did earlier in the week.

According to Met Office forecasts, Oxford is set to see sun peep through the clouds until 10am and show its full force for a lone hour at 11am.

The afternoon could turn cloudy, with temperatures peaking at 22C - far from Brize Norton's sweltering national high of 33.5C on Tuesday.

That same day, Hinksey Heated Outdoor Pool in Oxford's Lake Street welcomed more than 1,700 visitors.

Manager Vinny Harley said: "Our capacity is 1,500 but people were leaving and coming back.

"Last season was a bit of a wash out with the weather so it was really good to see so many people down there. We haven't hit capacity many times in the past, all the staff were in and we had three tills on the go.

"People were still coming in at 7.45pm even though we close at 8pm, they were just happy to have a quick dip."

But the sliver of summer weather is not quite ready to be replaced by dreary downpours, and it is likely to stay dry today.

Yesterday's thunderstorm warning has been lifted and in Oxford there is less than a five per cent chance that rain will fall.
