CERAMICS artist Kina Gorska has opened a new studio in Oxford's High Street to show her unusual designs.

Miss Gorska, originally from Poland, used to have a studio in Yarnton, but she has now set up her business in a new studio space at 71 High Street, where customers can sometimes watch her work being made.

She casts porcelain pieces cups, mugs and bowls and sells some of her designs online.

The 33-year-old, who lives in Oxford with her partner Darek, said: "Over the last few years I have been inspired by natural processes like melting or dripping which I try to recreate or somehow reflect in my designs.

"My intention is to create the perfect cup or mug, free of faults, but bone china is challenging to work with as it has a natural tendency to deformation, and my Alice tea set was inspired by this.

"My childhood memories of the tea party in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland came back to me while I was working on the project and that's why I made the connection with Alice."

"I have designed a classic tea set with a distorted surface, with rims decorated with gold that 'accidentally' drips down."

Miss Gorska added: "I think my designs are very unusual – one of my mugs which is covered with spikes – sometimes customers are a bit shocked when they see what I have made.

"I'm hoping the new studio will be a success with customers getting the chance to watch me work."
