THREE men threatened residents in a pub with a knife before locking them in a cellar and making off with cash in a terrifying robbery.

The men barged into the Red Lion pub in Drayton at about 3.45am and woke up the residents - two men and a woman - who were sleeping upstairs.

The knife-wielding robbers threatened them with a knife before locking them in a cellar and running off with cash and two mobile phones.

Thankfully, none of the residents were injured in the robbery.

Crime scene investigators were spotted this morning combing the site for evidence and a cordon was in place around the Abingdon Road pub.

Investigating officer, PC Shelley Slater from Force CID at Abingdon police station, said: “Fortunately, the victims were not injured during this incident, but it was a very frightening experience for them and they are understandably very distressed.

“Officers are in the area making enquiries and there is a scene watch in place. I would like to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything out of the ordinary in Drayton around the time of the offence.

“Any detail, no matter how insignificant it may seem to you, could  prove vital to the investigation.”

Earlier this year the village's Post Office, just a few doors down the road from the pub in Abingdon Road, was smashed into by a ram-raider who stole alcohol.
