RESIDENTS in Witney who cannot park outside their homes for a week have hit out at Oxfordshire County Council for not notifying them of roadworks in the area.

Kevin Green was told late on Sunday night by a workman putting out cones in New Yatt Road where he lives that he would have to move his car by 7am yesterday morning.

When the 47-year-old asked why, he was told it was due to his street being a diversion for roadworks in West End.

Mr Green said: "We have had no idea about these roadworks at all and I only found out because I asked a man who was putting cones down in my street.

"I don't know where we are going to park, there are cars always parked down our street for the people that live there.

"We could have been on holiday and the car could have been sitting there."

County council spokesman Martin Crabtree confirmed it was resurfacing a section of West End and said "information signs" had been put up in the road and residents on that street had received a letter.

He added New Yatt Road was part of a suggested diversion route for traffic and was "not normally used for on-street parking", despite Mr Green stating he parks his car outside his house.

Mr Crabtree added: "We were not required to inform people directly of the parking suspension but recognise that notice would have been appreciated. We will take this on board for future resurfacing schemes in the area."
