VULNERABLE people in Carterton will benefit from an amazing £7,115 raised this year as part of the mayor's charity challenge.

Mayor of Carterton Lynn Little announced the grand total raised during the year 2015 and 2016 at a special event last week, and said the money would be split between 13 worthy local causes.

And to help celebrate the achievement, Lord Lieutenant for Oxfordshire Tim Stevenson OBE came along to present the cheques to the various charities.

Mayor of Carterton Lynn Little said: "It was a massive honour to have Tim Stevenson here because he is so supportive of what we do. He gave a lovely speech and said Carterton was a lovely community.

"I went to see him at his home to talk to him about our Ted Little Veteran's House charity and that was when he agreed to come and present the cheque.

"He is such a lovely, lovely man - and to take the time to come out. We felt very honoured."

The charities that received the highly sought-after funds were; Carterton Vision's Club £300, Carterton Carers £200, Allandale Youth Club £500, Get Stuck in Summer Activities £300, Lights Up Memory Club £300, St Joseph's Church £200, Carterton Educational Trust £200, Carterton Day Centre £150, Royal National Lifeboat Institution £150, Carterton Over 60s Club £100, Carterton Town Council Mayor's Bench £500 and Ted Little's Veterans House £4,000.

A special last minute amount of £365 was granted to young boy Tyler Cabell from the town, whose mum is fundraising for him to receive a specially adapted bike to suit his disabilities.

The presentation on Monday, July 25 at Carterton Town Hall was attended by councillors and residents, who all enjoyed tea and scones with the Lord Lieutenant, who praised the work of the town council.

Town council clerk Ron Spurs added: "The Lord Lieutenant is a great supporter of Carterton. It was really good of him to make time in his very busy day and come along and support charities that help some of our most vulnerable residents."
