BIN collectors who missed out properties on their rounds in West Oxfordshire have now been replaced by a new team.

Ubico Ltd will be the new waste and recycling contractor from October next year for the West Oxfordshire district, it has been announced.

The company, which already cleans streets and maintains the grounds for the district council, replaces former company Kier and is part-owned by WODC.

It was revealed in June that the council missed out more homes during bin collections than it should this year which came down to workers at Kier not knowing the area well enough and missing out houses.

Cllr Richard Langridge, cabinet member responsible for the environment said: "We are pleased that Ubico will be running this important service on our behalf.

"As shareholders, we have direct control over the company and can ensure that quality services are delivered, whilst achieving excellent value for money as Ubico recharge the council the cost of service provision, without profit margins being added.

"Although West Oxfordshire's recycling rates are high, the new contract gives us the opportunity to make changes so it is easier for householders to recycle even more. These changes are based on a service review and survey where, for example, most people told us they would prefer to use a wheelie bin for recycling rather than black boxes. This is something we will be introducing in 2017."

Rob Bell, Ubico Managing Director said: "We are thrilled to be expanding our services with West Oxfordshire District Council and look forward to starting the new contract next year."

More information about the new service will be sent to householders during 2017.
