Get your dancing shoes on... it's still light but there's fun to be had with some local heroes

OXFORD indie-rock heroes Foals were the undisputed champions of Reading last weekend, after playing their first headline show at the festival.

The band delighted with a mix of new tracks and first album favourites – and, we are reliably informed by our man backstage, the after party was a thing to behold.

Some of the lads are back in action on Sunday, playing a DJ set for a We Are Your Friends daytime disco at the Bullingdon, in Cowley Road.

They are joined on the decks by Friendly Fires, and accompanied by live sets by Hudson Scott, Cameron AG, Esther Joy Lane and an ODC Barryoke edition of the ODC Drumline project.

The event is a fundraiser for The Michael Barry Fund brain tumour charity.

Michael, known for his Abort Retry Fail? nights was diagnosed with a brain tumour in January 2014, and died earlier this year, aged 35, after a brave fight. The charity helps fund vital research to fight this cruel disease – and all proceeds go into its coffers.

The event runs from 2-7pm.

Tickets are £9 from wegottickets.com

Oxford Mail:

  • One of the acts to catch on Sunday is Chipping Norton electronic maestro Esther Joy Lane.

Among the stars of this year’s inaugural Common People in South Park and Truck Festival in Steventon, she is now offering an extra treat for fans.

Between now and December, Esther will be uploading new tracks on an ad hoc bases to her Soundcloud page on an informal ‘now you see it, now you don’t,’ basis.

The first one is up already here....

  • LOOKING ahead, next Friday night’s Live Friday promises to be a suitably watery event, with some great music thrown in among the art and culture.

We have The Flights of Helios bringing their sublime folkie-rock (or rocky-folk, depending how you look at it), and sea shanties galore.

We have been assured there will be grog for the whole motley crew in The Galley Café and the Crow’s Nest Dining Room. Go to ashmolean.org
