A LAUNCH event for Holocaust Memorial Day was attended by Henley MP John Howell in the House of Commons.

Mr Howell heard Holocaust survivor John Hajdu speak of how he was forced to live in a Hungarian ghetto at the age of seven.

Mr Hajdu managed to survive the Holocaust only to find himself living under a communist regime.

He fled to Britain in 1956.

Holocaust Memorial Day is commemorated each year on January 27.

Mr Howell said: "John’s story is a reminder of the importance of marking Holocaust Memorial Day – a day where we remember the millions who were affected by the Holocaust and subsequent genocides."
