A MEMORIAL festival was held at a Didcot pub to pay tribute to a teenager who was killed by her ex-boyfriend.

To mark what would have been Jayden Parkinson's 20th birthday, the Prince of Wales pub hosted an evening of local bands and musicians in her memory.

Patrick Horanin, bar staff team leader at the pub in Station Road, said the bar was busy yesterday as people came to remember Jayden.

Samantha Shrewsbury, Jayden’s mum, said that she was thrilled her daughter’s memory was being kept alive.

She added: "I was not there because the pub is across the road from the train station, which is where Jayden was taken to.

"It has almost been three years since she has been gone and there are still places I can’t bear to go.

"Every single day I think about her and I will do for the rest of my life.

"Next year she would have been 21 and I’m hoping to get a proper festival organised in her memory.

"She loved festivals - I was going to take her on what would have been her 18th birthday to Glastonbury.

"I would really like to thank everyone who is still keeping her memory alive and for organising this.

"On her actual birthday today I will be going to her grave in Kent, and some of her friends and family will be coming with me."

At the pub there was a raffle with the chance to win an aeroplane flight, and proceeds will go towards the charity Jayden's Gift, which was set up in her honour.

Jayden, 17, was found in the graveyard of All Saints' Church in Didcot in December 2013.

She had been killed by ex-boyfriend Ben Blakeley and he was jailed for life in 2014.
