The busy St Aldate's branch of Tesco Express is shut this week and next week for a pre-Christmas refit.

The store's last day of trading was Sunday, December 4 and it will re-open again at 8am on Sunday, December 18.

Deputy manager James Hemshall said he believed about £250,000 was being invested in the store.

He said: "There will be a complete reshuffle ending in more ranges and moving the checkouts to try to spruce the store up and make it easier for staff and customers.

"Our sales are from students and office workers, who are disappearing during Christmas time. Tesco have tried to pick our lowest sales month to reduce the hassle for customers."

While work is ongoing staff have either gone on holiday or have been moved temporarily to other stores.

Once it has re-opened the Tesco Express will continue to run from 7am to 11pm daily.
