COMMUTERS trying to get home are facing chaos on the roads after two crashes happened within yards of one another on the A34.

Just after 5pm a crash involving three vehicles happend in the southbound carriageway between the A44 Woodstock Road (Peartree Interchange) and A420 (Botley Interchange.

But just 100 yards down the road there was another crash involving a further two vehicles.

Lucy Billen, a spokeswoman for Thames Valley Police, said that both crashes were damage only but drivers could expect delays as the vehicles currently remain in lane two of the carriageway.

She said: "Police are currently on scene with the drivers of the cars.

"No one has been injured, these are damage only RTCs.

"Traffic will be slow moving as they try and move the vehicles onto the hard shoulder so the second lane can be freed up."

But traffic is also mounting in the northbound carriageway as drivers slow down to look at the crash site.

David Gallagher, a spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 16.40pm about a two-car RTC on the A34 southbound – between the A4185 and the A4130.

"TVP on scene stood us down as not required – neither of the two drivers involved were injured.

"We have also been called about an accident on the Western Bypass Road, Lane 3, Southbound next to the Wolvercote Roundabout.

"Police have confirmed from the scene that there are actually two RTCs in this location; the first between two cars and the second between three cars.

"In both incidents it is a damage only RTC so we are not sending any vehicles to these."

Traffic is also building in Abingdon after reports of a crash on the A415 Marcham Road near Tesco roundabout. Drivers can expect 30 minute delays back to Culham.
