A £2M fundraising campaign will be launched on Monday with a 12-page Oxford Mail special edition to mark the 10th anniversary of the Oxford Children's Hospital.

The hospital in Headington - opened in 2007 - has launched the appeal, in conjunction with the paper, to celebrate the commitment of the nurses, doctors, consultants, play specialists and many more members of staff who have saved, changed and improved the lives of the county's most poorly children for a decade.

Oxford Mail:

Oxford Mail readers have also been thanked by the hospital's charity for their generosity over the years and called for more of the same this year to provide vital funds.

Eleanor Jones, head of fundraising at Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Charitable Funds, said: "Every day our young patients inspire us with their bravery and ambition and we want keep doing the very best we can for them.

"So we are marking 10 years of the Children’s Hospital with a big party for our young patients and by launching a new campaign across 2017 to raise £2million to make it even better.

"We hope the local community will rise to the challenge once again – so we’re calling on everyone to do their bit.

"If you are part of a club, group, school or business please think about ways you can raise funds to help this very important local cause."

Monday's paper will feature interviews with nurses, consultants, patients, fundraisers and many more people who have been an integral part of the hospital since it opened.

The appeal will raise money for a new 60-bedroom Ronald McDonald House facility next to the hospital to make sure parents can sleep close to their child during their stay in hospital.

Do you want to share your experiences of the children's hospital and help with the campaign? We'd love to hear from you

A new outdoor play area for around 30,000 children each year who use the specialist surgery department could also be provided.

Vital medical equipment will also be funded through the appeal, with bedside monitors - checking temperature, heart rate, blood pressure and level of oxygen in the blood at all times - one of the most important items on the list.

A microbiology scanner to diagnose bacterial meningitis and respiratory infections more quickly will also be funded through the generosity of people across the county.

Readers can donate in a number of different ways - including by signing up to the annual OX5 Run, which will feed into the appeal or by joining the hospital's 10k club and attempting to raise £10,000 over the year.
