A CAR park at an Oxfordshire train station could be more than doubled if plans by a rail operator go ahead.
Great Western Railway proposes increasing the parking spaces at Charlbury railway station from 200 to nearly 500 to help deal with increasing usage.
Representatives of GWR presented outline plans to councillors at a meeting of Charlbury Town Council on Monday.
District councillor for Eynsham Andy Graham said: “The basic principle of extending car parking for the station is a good thing because we do need additional parking.
“People finding it difficult to park now are parking outside of people’s houses in the streets nearby.”
The operator has proposed adding 112 spaces by building an additional deck over the lower level car park, and 174 spaces via a ground-level extension.
The ground-level extension would be constructed first so that parking spaces would remain available while construction work took place on the new deck.
GWR say that passenger numbers at Charlbury have been increasing year-on-year, from 231,582 in 2009/10 to 327,518 in 2015/16.
