HOMELESS residents are waiting for their belongings to be returned to them before what is left of their flats are demolished.

For more than three weeks Gibbs Crescent residents have been scattered across the city after their homes were destroyed in an explosion on Valentine’s Day.

A2Dominion, the housing association which runs the flats, cannot confirm exactly when flats 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11 and 13 will also be demolished.

Spokeswoman Sabrina Schouw said: “Our focus now is on helping our residents to get their lives back to normal as far as possible.

“We are finding permanent accommodation for 10 households who will not be able to go back to Gibbs Crescent.

“We are continuing our work to confirm when the remaining three households will be able to return to their homes, and we are expecting this to be this month.”

Flats 3, 5 and 7 were destroyed in the initial blast and 13 out of 19 households are still in temporary accommodation.

Human remains were found on the site on Saturday, February 18 but police have yet to confirm if it is the body of Guido Schuette, who has been considered missing since the blast.

A temporary A2Dominion office has been set up at Gibbs Crescent and newsletters are distributed daily to residents.
