A FLORAL flourish of yellow and blue near Oxford United’s original home has been causing a stir ahead of the club’s trip to Wembley.

Staff at Garden of Oxford, in Headington, have created a window display dedicated to the U’s, complete with yellow chrysanthemums spelling out COYY - Come on you Yellows.

The shop’s manager Caroline Godwin said it was all down to Yellows-mad owner Paul Birtles.

She said: “Paul is a really big Oxford United fan and he likes to pay homage to the fact that Headington is the club’s original home and we all remember those days so fondly.

“We have got a really great yellow and blue display and it’s all about showing our support for the team ahead of Sunday’s match.”

The Manor Ground, just yards from the shop, was home to the club for more than 75 years before it moved to the Kassam Stadium in 2001.

The entire front of the shop has been transformed into a shrine to Oxford United with flags, flowers and scarves adorning the window.

Staff worked tirelessly arranging hundreds of flowers in time the club’s day out at the home of football.

The florists did a similar display ahead of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final last year and the manager said this year’s bright arrangement was turning heads.

She said: “We have had lots of people tooting as they drive past and spot it and so many people have stopped to take pictures of it as well.”

Around 30,000 U’s fans will make the trip to Wembley on Sunday and the shop’s owner Paul Birtles and driver Raymond Martin will be among those cheering the team on when they take on Coventry in the Checkatrade Trophy final.

Following discussions with Wembley and EFL more tickets will go on sale at the Kassam this morning from 9.30am to noon.
