SCHOOLCHILDREN across the county have had their say as the winners of the Oxfordshire Book Awards were revealed yesterday.

More than 400 youngsters from about 30 schools voted in the competition and one of the winners – comedian David Baddiel thanked those who took part.

The broadcaster’s second novel The Person Controller, about twins given a magical controller, took first prize in the primary school category.

Mr Baddiel said: “That is very nice to hear, thanks to all who voted.

“PS. Is there a trophy?”

A Library of Lemons, by Oxfordshire author Jo Cotterill, a book about a young girl who becomes a carer for her father after her mother dies, was voted as the winner in the second school category.

The picture book prize was won by Emma Yarlett for Nibbles the Book Monster.

As in previous years schoolchildren will have the chance to meet the authors at an awards ceremony at Oxford High School on November 9.

Last year saw winning authors Lisa Williamson, Steve Antony, Tom McLaughlin, Steven Lenton and Teri Terry collect awards and share cake with children from a number of schools.
