A MAN was left in hospital after an 'unprovoked' attack in Cornmarket Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim, in his 20s, was walking down the city centre's main street shortly after 3am when he was approached by a man.

After a brief conversation he followed the victim and - close to Natwest - punched him in the face.

He was treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital for his facial injuries but has since been discharged.

Investigating officer, PC Lee Gilbert, said the assault appeared to be unprovoked and appealed for witnesses to come forward and call 101.
