MONSTER potholes in Blackbird Leys appear to have been partially fixed after a former resident complained to the Oxford Mail of the ‘dreadful’ state of the roads.

In late March Brian Chadwick, 83, who lived on the estate for 23 years, complained of ‘sinkholes’ up to 2ft wide and six inches deep.

Problems were reported all along Balfour Road and the bus stop, with other giant fissures appearing in Pegasus Road and Knights Road that had reportedly gone unfixed for months.

Two days after an article appeared in the Oxford Mail on March 24 Mr Chadwick said the majority of holes along Balfour Road had been dealt with by Oxfordshire County Council.

The grandfather and former Unipart worker said: “All of them have been fixed along the bus route and they have done a pretty good job - much better than last time.

“I haven’t done a complete tour yet but I will do.”

Oxfordshire County Council spokesman Martin Crabtree said: “We carry out repairs to potholes all year round and any that are reported to us will be inspected.

“The best way to report problems to us is via Fix My Street. This means that the reports come directly to our team.”
