WORK is being carried out to at Oxford’s £7m Frideswide Square to install new cycle parking.
Oxfordshire County Council said the area of the square outside the Royal Oxford Hotel would be ‘further enhanced’ to respond to ‘demand for extra cycle facilities’.
This will include new cycle stands and granite benches at a cost of £40,000.
Work started on Tuesday, county council spokesman Martin Crabtree said.
He added: “A local stone mason is also engraving ‘Frideswide Square’ into the granite benches. The Oxford Preservation Trust plaque for the award received in 2016 in recognition of the revamped public space’s contribution to the city will also be installed.”
**This story orginally said repairs were carried out to paving and has been corrected. The council has asked us to clarify repairs to the paving were seperately carried out in September at the cost of £60,000. We also said the size of bus bays had been increased previously. The council in fact tarmacked over kerbs to stop buses from damaging them.
