NO CAUSE has yet been established for an 'explosion' that reverberated through East Oxford in the early hours of Saturday morning.
What sounded like a 'bomb going off' disturbed a number of residents somewhere between 1.30am and 2.30am.
Police were called to Aston Street but could not conclusively say what had caused the loud bang.
Jack Doyle, who lives in Bullingdon Road, said he and housemates were woken up at 2.20am by the noise.
Police seem to be ringing off the hook in Oxford...something's definitely up re: people hearing an explosion all over town

The sound appears to have been heard by people in Oxford city centre as well, with reports coming from New College and Keble College.
Sian Watkins, who also lives off Cowley Road, said she had heard sirens following the blast.

Thames Valley Police spokesman Gareth Ford-Lloyd said police were called to Aston Street at 2.30am to reports of a 'loud bang'.
He said: "We made enquiries but nothing to suggest anything untoward."
It has been speculated that fireworks could have been the cause.
When contacted by the Oxford Mail on Tuesday neither RAF Benson and RAF Brize Norton could give an explanation for the noise.
