TWO South Oxfordshire primary schools became academies yesterday after a funding agreement was sealed.

Garsington Church of England Primary School and Horspath Church of England Primary School both became academies – free from the control of the local authority – after the funding agreement was agreed by the Education Secretary.

Both schools have become part of the River Learning Trust, which also includes The Cherwell School and Wheatley Park School.

Henley MP John Howell said: “I am pleased that both Garsington and Horspath schools recognise the benefits academy status will bring.

“I believe this will protect the sustainability of both schools.”
