ASTON Rowant trainer Alan Hill was the dominant force once again at his local track with a fabulous four-timer, including a sparkling 27th career success for the admirable veteran Start Royal.

Hill’s quartet of short-priced market leaders – Start Royal (4-6), Horizontal Speed (4-7), Changeofluck (4-7) and For ‘N’ Against (evens) – ensured favourite backers went home happy at the Kimblewick Hunt meeting at Kingston Blount.

Start Royal set the ball rolling for the Woodway Farm handler with an exuberant display of front-running jumping under Izzie Marshall to beat Golden Crisp (Emily Harbour) by two lengths in the JRL Group Ladies’ Open.

Hill said of the 13-year-old, who was winning at the course for a sixth time, said: “He is just as brave as ever. He is is the most horrible horse at home to ride out, but when he gets on the course he has this will to win.”

Horizontal Speed made it a double on the day for Hill when taking the Main Unit Chase Men’s Open over two miles and five furlongs in the hands of Gareth Henderson.

The race changed complexion at the fourth-last as Tajseer took a heavy fall under Phil York when duelling for the lead with Walkabout Creek, and Horizontal Speed, who was staying on strongly, had collared James Lyttle’s mount by the next, before powering clear to score by ten lengths.

Changeofluck brought up Hill’s hat-trick by completing his own three-timer in the Cub Cadet Intermediate Race.

The trainer’s son, Joe, sent the nine-year-old, who had won his maiden at Kingston Blount before taking a restricted at Kimble, into the lead five from home, and he repelled the persistent challenge of Cheltenham Mati by two lengths.

Hill’s four-timer was completed when he saw his own colours carried to victory by For ‘N’ Against, whom Joe made all the running on to triumph in the Kimblewick Hunt Mem- bers, Subscribers & Farmers Race.

The combination came home eight lengths clear of No No Bingo, with Victoria Pendleton, having her first ride since suffering an ankle injury when unseated at Larkhill in January, last of the four runners on the winner’s stablemate, Vesperal Dream.
