FOOTAGE has emerged of a plane moments before it crashed into the ground at Abingdon air show injuring the pilot.

The sharp descent of the light aircraft was picked up on camera by Mark Taylor - one of the spectators at yesterday's show.

The pilot was taking part in the Abingdon Air and Country Show this afternoon when the Twister Display aircraft he was in came down in a 'wheels up' landing.

The video show a plane travelling across the sky before a second follows hurtling towards the ground behind a large tent.

Eyewitness Tim Urry said: "It looked like he needed to land and he tried to turn as quickly as he could and just brought it into the ground.

"It didn't look too hard so hopefully he is OK."

He added: "I go to air shows quite often and thankfully I don't see things like this happen too often.

"I am just hoping that everybody is alright."

A number of ambulances and fire crews are currently at the scene and the pilot has been taken away by ambulance to the John Radcliffe Hospital.

The aircraft is believed to be still intact after the incident.

Organisers at the country show tweeted the following:

South Central Ambulance Service said that it was not involved in the incident and that show organisers were responsible.

Thames Valley Police said it was called to the incident at 2.30pm.

Spokeswoman Lucy Billen confirmed that a low level plane had come down just off the runway and a single occupant was taken to the John Radcliffe hospital.

She said: "They were breathing and conscious. Ambulance and fire are in attendance and the relevant air authorities have been notified."

No other members of the public are involved and air show activity was temporarily suspended.

Meanwhile, show goers hailed the annual event, which featured air, military and countryside displays, as a success despite the incident, and the display resumed at 4pm.

One participant Oliver Holloway, 37, who was visiting with his wife and two young boys, said it had been a “very enjoyable day out”.
