THERESA May was confronted in Abingdon this morning about disability support payments by an angry shopper.

While touring market stalls in the town's main square with local Conservative election candidate Nicola Blackwood, the Prime Minister was told by Cathy Mohan: "The fat cats take all the money and us lot get nothing."

It came as Mrs May made an 11-minute stop in Abingdon after earlier visit to Oxford Business Park, where she met staff at technology companies.

Ms Mohan stopped her as she walked around Abingdon's square, telling the politician: "I am talking about everybody, not just me.

"I am talking about everyone who has got mental health problems, anyone who has got learning disabilities, I want them not to have their money taken away from them and being crippled.

"I want my disability living allowance to come back. I can't live on £100 a month. You took it all away from me."

Mrs May replied: "What I am saying, Cathy, is Nicola can help you specifically, what I can do is ensure we are giving more help to people with mental health problems and learning disabilities.

"That is exactly what we will do and we made an announcement the other day. When we look at the help we give people with any disability, particularly [we want to] focus on those who are most in need."

During the visit Mrs May also spoke to other shoppers, with one telling her she was the 'best of a bad bunch'.

"I'll take that as flattering," Mrs May replied.

Shoppers stopped the PM to shake her hand and she posed for pictures with passers-by.

One man told her to 'keep it up' while a woman said the visit was an 'unexpected pleasure'.
