AN OXFORD homeowner is hoping to become almost self-sufficient in electricity with a massive solar panel installation outside his house.

Michael Cochrane, who lives on Hinksey Hill, has applied for planning permission to install the 200sq m solar array in a field which is currently used to graze two donkeys.

The 30KW system will be well screened by existing hedges and trees, and ‘only barely visible from outside the property’, he said.

Neighbours can see the plans online at whitehorsedc.gov.uk using reference number P17/V1086/FUL.

Vale of White Horse District Council is aiming to give Mr Cochrane a final decision by the end of June.
