A SIXTH form student who killed a man in Oxford city centre was told to expect a prison sentence.

Iman St Clair, 18, of Kestrel Crescent, Blackbird Leys, Oxford, admitted unlawfully killing Eamonn Anderson.

Mr Anderson, 56, of Salter Close, was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries after being kicked off his bike in High Street, Oxford on October 25 last year

His life support machine was subsequently switched off and he died on November 11 as a result of his injuries.

St Clair, who was released on bail ahead of his sentencing next month, pleading guilty at Oxford Crown Court yesterday to a charge of manslaughter.

The court heard how the defendant is currently studying his AS Levels and was of previous good character.

Defence barrister Andrew Hall said St Clair acknowledged the 'fatal blow' he struck.

Thames Valley Police said between 11.30pm and 11.45pm on October 25, St Clair and a group of males were involved in an argument with Mr Anderson in High Street.

St Clair then assaulted Mr Anderson, causing him to fall from his bike, which led to him suffering serious head injuries and dying in hospital.

He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital for treatment, but later died.

Mr Anderson, a reformed bank robber, had spent more than 24 years of his life behind bars for armed robbery and firearms offences.

Judge Zoe Smith bailed St Clair until sentence, but added: "Do not think because of you having bail now, there will be anything other than a custodial sentence."

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Lynch, of the Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit, said it was 'appropriate' St Clair entered a guilty plea.

He added: "I am pleased that they will now not have to go through the ordeal of a trial.

"St Clair’s actions that night were violent, and tragically led to the death of Mr Anderson.

"This has been an incredibly stressful time for his family, and I hope that this conviction will help them to be able start to move on from this difficult time."

St Clair will be sentenced at the same court on July 4 at 2pm.
