‘FLOOD heroes’ in Oxfordshire can be nominated to receive £10,000 to invest in their community.

In the anniversary of Oxford’s devastating 2007 floods, the industry-funded flood insurance advice body Flood Re is offering the cash to protect homes and businesses.

People in at-risk communities are being asked to nominate a ‘local hero’, be it themselves, someone they know or a group that has made a difference during the toughest times of flooding.

The national winner will be awarded a £10,000 fund to go towards their local community’s response to flooding or a local flood relief charity of their choice.

The award is sponsored by Covéa Insurance and NFU Mutual.

Flood Re chief executive Andy Bord said: “People who live in places at risk of flood, like Oxford, know only too well the devastation that can be caused by flooding.

“Each village, town and city has its own characteristics and often the best responses to flood come from groups of local citizens.

“We want to champion the great work that is being done on the ground by these individuals and community flood groups.”
