BANK workers brightened a school playground that was in ‘desperate need’ of new life.

Staff at Santander from branches in Abingdon, Didcot and Headington spruced up outdoor space at Carswell Community Primary School in Abingdon.

The eight-strong team spent a day earlier this month gardening, cleaning and painting sheds, benches and tables with bright colours.

Headteacher Tina Farr thanked them for being ‘amazing and hardworking’, adding: “We are incredibly grateful for the work they completed.

“They did a fantastic job of tidying up the outside area creating a welcoming play area for the children to enjoy.”

The school said the playground was previously looking tired and untidy.

Alison Hawkins, branch director at Santander Abingdon, said: “t felt great to be able to give something back to our community.

“We heard the school playground was in desperate need of a refresh. By using bright paints on all the outbuildings, tables and benches, and new chalk boards, we achieved a bright and enjoyable area for the large number of children passing though the school.”

The project ran as part of the bank’s Discovery Days scheme, which encourages staff to take a day out of the office to volunteer for a local cause.
