These days students are more likely to stay up all night anxiously refreshing the UCAS admissions screen, but for one Cherwell School pupil nerves forced her to do things the old-fashioned way.

Nicole Mortimer, 18, from Cuttslowe, was so worried about her A-level results that she made her mum hide her phone so she had no way to know whether she had been accepted by her first choice university.

When she finally opened her results envelope, the schoolgirl broke down in tears as it was revealed her fears were unfounded and she had made the grades required to study Business Management at Swansea University.

She said: “I was absolutely stunned. I really thought I had messed up my exams.

“I was so nervous I gave my mum my phone and told her to hide it so I couldn’t check online.”

Nicole achieved three C's in Business, Economics and Sociology.

The teenager has already received a warm welcome from her future university on social media, with Swansea student union sports officer Gwyn Aled tweeting: "Well done Nicole! Smashed it! We will see her at Freshers" and the Student Union adding: "Can't wait to see Nicole in the business society."

The School of Management also tweeted: "We're so glad she's excited. We can't wait to meet her in September!"
