It was all hail the Oxfordshire ale at this year's World Beer Awards 2017.

Hook Norton Brewery near Chipping Norton took home the prize for the Best Rye Beer on the planet, along with another two UK wins and a bronze placing.

A judging panel of experts picked the best beers from each country across 72 styles.

With over 1,900 beers from more than 36 countries entered into this year’s awards, judges blind tasted and scored the entries over two rounds to determine the best.

Red Rye, a ruby red, fruity ale picked up both the UK's Best Rye Beer and then went on to win the World’s Best Rye Beer, repeating its success from 2015.

Old Hooky, 40 years old this year, was also voted the UK's Best English Brown Ale, showing some old classics never go out of style.

Finally, Playing Hooky, a pale, amber, malty biscuit brew picking up bronze in the UK, Pale Ale category.

Hook Norton managing director James Clarke said: “We are extremely proud to have won this award for Red Rye after narrowly missing out with a silver to BrewDog last year.

"It is great to be recognised for all of the hard work and dedication the team here put in to produce these world class beers and to be flying the flag for the UK”
