AN OXFORDSHIRE holiday camp for the rich and famous has been named the second best hotel in the country.

The exclusive Soho Farmhouse won silver in the Conde Nast Traveller 20th annual readers' travel awards, the magazine announced yesterday.

Soho Farmhouse, which sprawls over a landscaped estate in Great Tew near Chipping Norton, has been frequented by the likes of Prince Harry, David Cameron and the Beckhams.

The resort has shot up in the Conde Nast rankings from its position at 20th in last year's poll.

Raymond Blanc's perennially popular Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, at Great Milton, is down two places this year from 12th to 14th.

The city of Oxford has also placed at tenth in the survey of top UK cities to visit, behind London in first place, Cambridge in fifth and Belfast in ninth.

Soho Farmhouse stoked traffic fears in neighbours this spring when it submitted a planning application to build 10 new 'pods' on its site in Great Tew, which will house an extra 40 guest bedrooms.

It also submitted a relation application for 15 additional guest rooms and a new walled garden.

The site currently includes 31 cabin buildings, a four-bedroom cottage and a seven-bedroom farm house.

A decision is awaited on both the applications.
