OXFORD’S Frideswide Square will temporarily close for more repairs.

Both bus bays in the busy city centre junction will be resurfaced this week.

The road through Frideswide will shut from 8pm tonight until 6am tomorrow, and again from 8pm on Wednesday until 6am on Thursday, while works take place.

Drivers will have to use Osney Lane and Becket Street, with two-way temporary traffic signals installed to aid the diversion.

The loading bay and disabled parking bay in Becket Street will also close from tomorrow at 4pm until 6am on Thursday.

Oxford Bus Company has asked passengers travelling to Oxford Railway Station to instead use the Park End Street bus stop, opposite Kwik Fit.

Those travelling in the opposite direction can use a temporary bus stop Park End Street outside Staples.

Buses travelling to and from Botley Road will also divert using Hollybush Row, Osney Lane and Becket Street.

The Oxfordshire County Council repairs coincide with the authority’s ongoing work to nearby Folly Bridge, which has wreaked havoc on rush hour traffic.

The council completed a £6.7m transformation of Frideswide Square in December 2015.

Months later it was forced to repair cracked and crumbling pavements in Frideswide, after blaming lorry and coach drivers for encroaching on the sloped kerbs.
