AN EVENT will give people in Witney the opportunity to learn more about issues surrounding mental health in the 21st century.

A number of mental health charities will have stands at Witney's Mental Health Awareness Day, which will be held in the Corn Exchange on Tuesday, October 10,

Employers will be able to learn about supporting employees who are affected by conditions like depression and anxiety.

Witney's mayor Chris Woodward said: ā€œIā€™m delighted to offer my support to this event. It is a very emotive subject that everyone should feel they can talk about and seek the assistance they may need.

"I would encourage anyone who may have a need for support to come along. Very often, the first step is the hardest. Perhaps this is that first positive step that will uncover a network of resources.

"In the same way, this event is a vital resource that businesses can tap into in order to discover the huge number of organisations and groups that are able to help support their workforce with mental health issues.ā€

Among the organisations appearing on the day is Oxfordshire Mental Health Partnership, which brings together charities and health bodies in the county.

There will be sessions on yoga, hypno-psychotherapy and song-writing, as well as a quiet room where guests will be ale to have uninterrupted conversations.

The free event will run from 10am to 3pm on October 10.
