PLANS for a giant new housing development between Didcot and surrounding villages will be unveiled next week.

Proposals for the site, known as Hagbourne Fields, would see up to 1,000 new homes built south of Great Western Park in a move that campaigners have said would make West Hagbourne a 'suburb of Didcot'.

The developer behind the proposals, Taylor Wimpey, is holding a drop-in public exhibition on Thursday November 9 between 1pm and 8pm .

Emerging proposals will be on display for the public to view and provide feedback for the first time.

Residents can attend at any time and representatives of the developer will be on hand to answer questions.

The event will be held in the Willow Room of the Cornerstone Arts Centre.

Parish councillors across South Oxfordshire pledged to protest after a 'scoping opinion' application for the site was submitted to South Oxfordshire District Council this summer.

West Hagbourne Parish Council chairman Michael Butler said he would oppose the new homes because they would increase traffic and encroach on the village's unique identity.

Mr Butler said: "We don't want to become a southern suburb of Didcot, we would lose the character of the village."
