AN OXFORD college is considering introducing racism awareness courses from next year, it has been reported.
Students starting at Magdalen College may be offered workshops on topics such as institutional racism and cultural appropriation, a process where a minority culture's traditions are adopted by members of another culture, usually for entertainment.
The college's JCR will debate the proposal later this week.
The move comes after Magdalen was criticised for holding a twenties themed ball which students said would cause offence because women and people of colour did not attend the college during this time.
Correction: This story was edited on November 20. The college is looking at the possibility of introducing racisim awareness courses and has not already done so, as previously reported.
