OXFORDSHIRE could soon be in with a chance of snow after the UK has seen off Storm Caroline.

Today, the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice in part of London and the south east as the Arctic blast sweeps southwards throughout Friday and Saturday.

During Storm Caroline, forecasters warned of 'danger to life' with gusts of up to 90mph set to hit Scotland during the course of the day.

And though Oxfordshire will be spared the brunt of the storm, the county has had a cloudy and wet start, with occasionally heavy rain, strong winds with coastal gales.

And this could be followed by snow, with the Met Office's warning covering parts of Oxfordshire and narrowly missing the city itself.

The warning states: "During Friday, increasingly frequent snow showers already affecting parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England will extend across many other northern and western parts of the UK.

"2-5 cm of snow is likely in places over the warning area.

"10-20 cm is possible for some locations, mainly in northern Scotland, Northern Ireland, north Wales and perhaps the northwest Midlands.

"Icy surfaces are also likely to be an additional hazard, especially overnight.

"The heaviest and most frequent snow showers will progressively become confined to northeast Scotland during Saturday. Possible travel delays on roads."

Power cuts have also affected parts of the county today, including central Oxford and Wootton, near Abingdon, this morning.

Both of the outages were minor, lasting a few minutes at most on each of the two occasions and affecting around 4,000 homes.

Energy company SSE has apologised for the power cuts and said its engineers are now looking into the cause.

A spokeswoman said the cuts were not believed to be related to Storm Caroline in any way, but could not confirm this.

Today the company issued a 'power cut' checklist for those in the UK who may lose power as a result of the weather conditions.
