STUDENTS at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in New Marston, Oxford, made the most of the snowfall at school by learning how to build a Quinzee - more commonly known as an igloo.

The early years youngsters were given the lesson outside in the snow by specialist forestry teacher Edina Wermeser on Monday after the heavy snowfall.

The primary school was one of the few schools to remain open but the teachers made sure pupils didn’t miss out on all the fun in the snow.

Headteacher Sue Tomkys said: “Edina Wermeser is a very talented teacher who leads all our forestry school activities throughout and on Monday she taught the children how to make a quinzee - a snow shelter.

“The children had a marvellous time and couldn’t wait to bring their parents in to show them and play going in and out the quinzee.”

Ms Tomkys said the rest of the school also enjoyed playing in the snow during break times and those who wanted to enjoy snow ball fights got stuck in.

She added: “We always try to stay open if we can as a lot of our parents work at the hospital.”
